Tom Brady is all about simplicity: 'I'm kind of like a jeans and T-shirt kind of person'

Less than two hours after defeating the Houston Texans at FoxboroTom Bradyhad already spoken to press about the New England Patriots’ comeback, changed out of his pads and uniform, and driven back to Boston (which any Bostonian knows is an incredible feat). Before going back home to get some rest, though — much needed, considering he took quite a few hits — the football player had yet another job to do.

On top of his quarterbacking duties, Brady, 40, is a father of three; a published author (The TB12 Method was released last week); and a brand ambassador for UggBeats By DreAston Martin, and others. While he typically lends just his face to these various companies, for Tag Heuer he contributed ideas as well.

For a special edition of the Heuer 01 chronograph that Brady helped design, he pushed his bedtime back and debuted it on Sunday night.

“I wanted a very simple design because I like a lot of simplicity. I’m kind of like a jeans and T-shirt kind of person,” he admitted while, fittingly enough, wearing jeans and a T-shirt during the presentation ceremony. “It’s sporty, but it also has this elegant class. You can wear it on whatever occasion, and I think it’ll always work. It’s beautiful. I’m very, very happy.”

It’s easy to see why. The watch is specifically made for either Brady himself or devoted superfans. The timepiece is mostly blue, and the color is featured on the dial and leather straps (Brady thinks it’s “such a classic look” and “very elegant”). Silver and red accents are included in the stitching and other accents.

The exaggerated 12 o’clock hour marker is a nod to his jersey number. Other personal details are included as well, such as the fact that only 466 watches were produced, a nod to the number of passing yards he threw for in the Super Bowl in February. Each watch also has Brady’s name and signature on the case back and notes the limited-edition number (Brady took 12 for himself). While most have already sold, some are still available for $5,600.

“I think designing something as beautiful as that does require a lot of thought and a lot of effort, and it takes a great team to do that,” Brady said. “To design this watch and to have people love it as much as I do means a lot to me.”
Well, that and sleep, of course.
